Lake Forest Garden Revival

Clarence Davids & Company developed a new garden at this beautiful residence in Lake Forest, Illinois this past year. Designed by Barker Evans Landscape Architecture, the landscape is a perfect complement to the home’s distinctive architecture. When the Clarence Davids team arrived on site in early summer, the home’s extensive renovation was still in progress. Our team worked in conjunction with LG Construction Group to ensure that an important deadline was met; a wedding for friends of the homeowners was planned to be hosted in the garden in September.

The main feature of the backyard landscape is the charming entertainment patio, which includes a fire table that is connected to natural gas. At the other end of the patio, a custom fountain provides a calming atmosphere. Large ornamental pear trees frame the space that will deliver stunning white flowers in the spring. Our partner, North Shore Aggregate, installed the raised concrete patio around the perimeter of the space. The homeowners love to cook, and they now have a large grilling area with a waterfall Dekton countertop. Tumbled limestone cobble walkways, installed by our partner, Krugel Cobbles, provide a unique look that reflects the historic design of the home.

The plantings were designed to provide interest year-round. A diverse palette of perennials and ornamental grasses were installed as well as globe boxwood. An invasive hedge of buckthorn was removed along the perimeter of the backyard and replaced with norway spruce, catalpa, arborvitae, and flowering shrubs to create a beautiful buffer. Red maples were installed along the main driveway. Adding excitement to the evening scene, each tree has LED lights, which were installed by our friends at Night Light. This project was truly a collaborative effort and we were honored to be a part of it. We believe that these transformations to the new outdoor spaces are a great addition to the home and will bring joy to the homeowners for many years to come.
